Julia M. Duff
Julia M. Duff of Norristown died on Oct. 11, 2008. She was 92. She was the daughter of the late James J. and Julia (Meder) Duff. She worked for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia for 38 years and St. Hubert’s High School for 31 years. She is predeceased by three brothers, James, Joseph and Lawrence. A funeral Mass was celebrated on Oct. 16 at Visitation B.V.M. Church, Trooper. Burial followed at Resurrection Cemetery. She is survived by her sisters, Sister Marie Aquin Duff, I.H.M., Kathleen, Anna, Joan and Patricia; her long-time friend, Daniel; and several nieces and nephews.
Sister Jane Slaba
Sister Jane Slaba, S.B.S., formerly Sister Michael Marie, S.B.S., died on Oct. 15, 2008. She was 88. She was born in Bethlehem, Pa., to Michael and Agnes Domasska Slaba and went on to receive her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from Villanova University. She taught elementary school students in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1949 and continued teaching and serving as principal in schools throughout the United States. In 1980, she began pastoral service and later returned to St. Elizabeth convent in 1990 as coordinator of visiting groups. In 2006, she was assigned to St. Michael Hall. She is predeceased by her brother, Edward. A funeral Mass was celebrated on Oct. 22 at the Motherhouse Chapel in Bensalem. Interment followed at the Motherhouse Cemetery. She is survived by her sister Rhonda, her extended family and the sisters of her congregation.
Gerald C. McHugh
Gerald C. McHugh died peacefully at his home on Oct. 24, 2008. He was born in Philadelphia to the late Thomas E. and Anna nee Dallahan McHugh. He attended West Catholic Boys High School and St. Joseph’s University. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1955. He was employed at Alliance Bank (formerly Greater Delaware Valley Saving and Loan) and retired as president in 1989. He was a loving father and grandfather, an avid golfer and traveler. A funeral Mass was celebrated Oct. 29 at SS. Peter and Paul Church, West Chester. Internment followed at SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Joan; his children, Kathleen, Gerald, Maureen, Patricia, Susan and Barbara; 16 grandchildren; 1 great- grandchild and his brother, Jack.
