Romeo D. Manzi
Romeo D. Manzi died Dec. 27, 2008. He was 99. He was born to the late Dominic and Frances O’ Donnell Manzi and was the husband to the late Mary Regina Hogan Manzi and the late Gladys M. Ferguson Fitzgerald Manzi. He was in the first class to graduate from St. Katharine of Siena High School and later went on to work as a furniture salesman for Hobson and Owens for many years. He is predeceased by his parents Dominic and Frances O’ Donnell; first wife Mary Regina; second wife Gladys M.; stepson Robert A.; and siblings, Gerard, Florence and Lincoln. A funeral Mass was celebrated Dec. 31 at St. Katherine of Siena Church, Philadelphia. Interment followed at Calvary Cemetery. He is survived by his children, Mary “Mimi,” Margaret “Margie,” Christina “Tina” and Francis “Tani;” stepson, John J.; sister Carmel; 26 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 1 great -great grandson; and numerous nieces, nephews and grandnephews.
Michele H. McCann
Michele H. McCann, a parochial school teacher, died suddenly Dec. 8, 2008, in her home of heart failure. She was the daughter of Walter A. and Mary (Nolan) McCann. She graduated from Notre Dame High School and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Gwynedd Mercy College and a master’s degree from Temple University. For a brief time she taught elementary school. Shortly thereafter, she taught English and ancient history at St. Hubert Catholic High School for Girls. She devoted her career to educating Catholic youths, especially young women, and inspiring them to achieve their full potential. Her numerous nieces and nephews enjoyed her sense of humor, her seemingly endless knowledge and her stories about her Irish ancestors. While she led a private, humble life in her later years, she was known in her community for her willingness to help anyone in need. A funeral Mass was celebrated Dec. 16 at St. Bartholomew Church, Philadelphia. Interment followed at Resurrection Cemetery. She is survived by three siblings, Sister Maureen McCann, R.S.M., Constance F. and Robert, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand- nephews.
Sister Mary Loyola Edelen, S.B.S.
Sister of the Blessed Sacrament Mary Loyola Edelen, formerly Jean Edelen, died Dec. 17, 2008. She was 83. She was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Parish, Philadelphia. A funeral Mass was celebrated Dec. 23 at the motherhouse in Bensalem. She is survived by her brothers, Collings and Donald.
