Sister Maria Devota Dempsey, S.S.J.
Sister Maria Devota Dempsey, S.S.J., formerly Margaret Veronica Dempsey, died Jan. 13, 2009. She was 95. She was born in Philadelphia to John Dempsey and Winifred Flynn. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph on Sept. 8, 1933, and served for many years in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. She was predeceased by her brothers, John and Paul and her sisters, Sister Clare Amata, S.S.J., Catherine and Margaret. A funeral Mass was celebrated Jan. 16. Interment followed at the Community Cemetery.She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and her congregation.
Sister Catherine Mulvihill, S.S.J.
Sister Catherine Mulvihill, S.S.J., formerly Sister Arsenia, died Jan. 8, 2009. She was 92. She was born in Newark, N.J., to Charles Mulvihill and Isabel Mullin. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph Sept. 10, 1934, and served in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and the dioceses of Allentown and Harrisburg, Pa. She was predeceased by her brothers, Charles, Raymond and Paul, and her sister, Mary. A funeral Mass was celebrated Jan. 13. Interment followed at the Community Cemetery. She is survived by her sisters-in-law, Evelyn and Nora, a niece and nephew and her congregation.
Josephine M. Costa
Josephine M. Costa, nee Carroll, died Jan. 21, 2009, at Little Flower Manor. She was 84. She was born in Chester to the late Thomas J. and Kathleen Farley Carroll. She attended Immaculate Heart of Mary School. She was a member of Our Lady of Charity Church and the Charitans at Our Lady of Charity. She was also a member of the Del-Chester Serra Club. She was predeceased by her sisters, Rita T., Agnes G., Sister M. Thomas Kathleen, I.H.M., and Anne and her brothers, Lawrence F., Thomas L. and Arthur. A funeral Mass was celebrated at Our Lady of Charity Church, Brookhaven. Interment followed at SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield. She is survived by her husband, Anthony J. Costa; three sons, Father Anthony J. Costa, Thomas J. and Michael J.; and two sisters, Kathleen and Jean.
