Alan W. Maguire
Alan W. Maguire of Rhawnhurst died Feb. 25, 2009. He was 80. He served for many years in the United States Navy on the USS Tanner and later for the police department in the foot traffic spanision. He also worked as a thermographer and for the Chase Paper Company as the eastern regional manager. Shortly thereafter, he worked for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia in the security department. In his spare time, he served on the board of directors of the Philadelphia Club of Printing House Craftsman; the RCIA team and pastoral council at Resurrection of Our Lord Parish; and as president of the senior citizens club. He was also a fourth degree member of Knights of Columbus, Assumpta council #3885, where he served as a Grand Knight and former District Deputy for the Seventh District of Pennsylvania. He was also the founder and coach of the Lawndale Aces in the Pop Warner League. A funeral Mass was celebrated Feb. 28 at Resurrection of Our Lord Church. Interment followed. He is survived by his wife, Ellen K. (nee Kitz), his children, Maureen E., Nancy M. and Loretta E. and his grandchildren, Shaun, Caitlin, Jack, Abby and Zoe.
Sister Marie Gertrude Anderson, I.H.M.
Sister Marie Gertrude Anderson I.H.M., formerly Ellen Marie Anderson, died Feb. 10, 2009, in Camilla Hall. She was born in Chester and entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1947 and professed her first vows in 1950. She graduated from Media High School and received her undergraduate degree from Immaculata College. She later went on to teach at various elementary schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. From 1996 until 2002, she served in pastoral ministry at St. Maria Goretti Parish, Hatfield. She was a pastoral caregiver at St. Mary Manor from 2003 to 2008, when she retired to Camilla Hall to a ministry of prayer. She is predeceased by her parents Charles J. and Mary Catherine Arnaudo Anderson. A funeral Mass was celebrated Feb. 13 at Camilla Hall. Interment followed in the Immaculata Cemetery. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Marcella, her nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and her religious community.
Sister Marie de Brebeuf, I.H.M.
Sister Marie de Brebeuf, I.H.M., formerly Pauline Zvigaitis, died on Feb. 1, 2009, in Camilla Hall. She was born in Philadelphia and entered the Congregation of the Sisters, Servants of the Immaculate Heart of Mary in 1937 and professed her first vows in 1940. For the next 29 years, she served in various elementary and secondary schools in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia and the Dioceses of Allentown and Harrisburg, Pa. In 1969, she began her ministry as librarian at Immaculata University where she served until her retirement to Camilla Hall in 2003. She was predeceased by her parents, Stanislaus and Pauline Matullis Zvigaitis, two sisters and three brothers. A funeral Mass was celebrated Feb. 5 at Camilla Hall. Interment followed in the Immaculata Cemetery. She is survived by her cousin, Ruth, three nieces and members of her religious community.
