Father Dan Ruff, S.J.
St. Hilary Parish in Rydal, Montgomery County, offers an evening to learn more about Pope Francis on Thursday, Feb. 27 at 7 p.m.
A talk by Jesuit Father Dan Ruff will explore how a pope gets elected, the significance of the first Jesuit priest elected pope, the impact of Pope Francis’ papacy so far and what the future might hold.
The talk will take place in the parish church located at 820 Susquehanna Road in Rydal. Refreshments will follow in the parish center.
Father Ruff is a member of the Maryland Province of the Society of Jesus, and holds a Ph.D. in liturgical studies from the Catholic University of America. He spent seven years on the formation faculty of St. Mary’s Seminary and University in Baltimore, where he taught liturgy and preaching and also served as a spiritual director to seminarians.
He is currently pastor of Old St. Joseph Parish in Philadelphia and an adjunct faculty member at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, where he teaches homiletics. He has given workshops on liturgy and preaching to priests, deacons, seminarians and laity throughout the Eastern United States and in Australia, and he has also led a wide variety of retreats.

I wonder if anyone will be recording the talk and uploading it to YouTube so many more folks will have the benefit of Father Ruff’s understanding … I believe the Priest who officiated at our marriage in 1964, Fr. Raymond Cosgrove, S.J. served at Old St. Joseph’s also. (I lived at 13th & Spruce, then; but Fr. Ray was also a friend of my uncle, who was ordained as a Jesuit in the 40s, and was one of my guiding Lights throughout my life because of his totally unrelenting Joy. I see the Holy Father as another example of being at ease in complete Happiness).
