Mary, Mother of the Redeemer Parish in North Wales will host a Helping Hands community service event on Sunday, May 14 as part of the parish’s initiative to work more closely with Catholic Relief Services (CRS). Parishioners and other volunteers will work together to package 10,000 meals to send to people in Burkina Faso, Africa, living with chronic hunger as a result of cyclical drought and flooding.
On the occasion of Mother’s Day, the MMR community welcomes grandparents, parents and children to join this fun, inspirational event that allows participants to serve their brothers and sisters in a tangible way.
CRS’ Helping Hands program serves the vulnerable in two ways: to send food for immediate hunger relief and to fund income-generating projects to prevent hunger in the long term. Mary, Mother of the Redeemer will collaborate with CRS to help achieve these goals.
Globally today nearly one in nine people do not get enough food to be healthy and lead an active life. Consequently, hunger and malnutrition are the leading risks to health worldwide — greater than AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis combined.
Pope Francis has said, “Those who are nourished by the Bread of Christ cannot remain indifferent to those who do not have their daily bread.” The scandal of hunger must be confronted by helping those in need.
Registered participants are asked to sign in on the day of the event at 12 noon in the Catholic Education Center on the MMR campus located at 1325 Upper State Road, North Wales. The event will conclude at 2:30 p.m.
Anyone wishing to register to participate or to make a donation in support of Helping Hands should visit www.mmredeemer.org. For more information, contact JeriBeth Subers at CRSatMMR@gmail.com.
