Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia
Start Date and Time:
Saturday August 24th 10:30AM
End Date and Time
Saturday August 24th 3PM
We are inviting all to join us in celebrating our 150th Anniversary of Presence in Philadelphia, serving the Elderly Poor since 1869! Holy Family Home for the elderly is conducted by the Little Sisters of the Poor in southwest Philadelphia.
The Little Sisters arrived
in Philadelphia in 1869 directly from France and at one time cared for over 600 elderly folks in three different Homes here – all bearing the same charism of St.
Jeanne Jugan, our Foundress,
who recognized the very presence of Christ embodied in a blind and paralyzed beggar/elderly woman in 1839. Carrying her into her own apartment and placing her into her own bed, the old woman became the first of many thousands who would find a home of love, care and respect.
Mass will be celebrated by his excellency, Archbishop Charles J.
A reception will follow at the One Logan Hotel, located adjacent to the Basilica
Help keep Catholic media free, support CatholicPhilly.com
You may have noticed “pay walls” greeting you when you visit the websites of newspapers and magazines, both large and small. These mechanisms allow you to read a few articles for free before you’ve got to pay an annual fee if you want to see more.
You won’t find a pay wall on CatholicPhilly.com because we’re more than a news organization. We’re informing, inspiring and forming readers in the Catholic faith every day through the news, features and commentaries that we post on this site and share across social media.
It costs money to provide high-quality coverage of the local Catholic communities we primarily serve, while also distributing national and world news of interest to Catholics, plus the orthodox teachings of the Catholic faith.
Help us in this mission by making a single gift of $40, $50, $100, or more. Your gift will strengthen the fabric of our entire Catholic community.
