The bombings in Boston two weeks ago were a tragic reminder of the fragility of human life. So many injured by a man-made object aimed at the destruction of body and spirit. Yet at the same time the response in charity of so many people in Boston and around the country offers us a witness to love.

Night yields to light of Jesus’ love and mercy
We see the healing power of Jesus’ resurrection, His love and His mercy, manifest through Peter in the reading from Acts of the Apostles. Similar to that night in the courtyard, Peter is once again surrounded by adversaries. Once again he is questioned. But this time he does not deny the Lord, he boldly professes His resurrection.

Celebrating Jesus’ mercy and love, where there is no place for fear
“Do not be afraid” is the greeting of the Lord to St. John recounted in the opening passage from the Book of Revelation. The greeting is one that we have heard before. Jesus used this greeting frequently. The angel Gabriel also used the greeting when he appeared to Mary and Zechariah announcing the dawn of salvation.
