Young men in their junior and senior year of high school are invited to study St. Augustine’s “Confessions” in a virtual reading group with the 2020 Philadelphia Catholic Scholars Program.

The group will meet online daily July 13-17 from 3 to 4:30 p.m. to discuss the work of the fourth century North African bishop and doctor of the church, ask questions and join one another in prayer.

Founded in the summer of 2018, the Philadelphia Catholic Scholars Program, according to its website, seeks “to invite young men into the ‘great and glorious’ kingdom of literature, philosophy and theology, and to help them see the important connection between their intellectual and spiritual lives.”

Typically the program runs for 10 days at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, and counts as college credit. In addition to daily classes the program includes daily Mass and prayer.

When restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic prevented in-person gatherings, organizers decided to adapt the program online.

Through the generosity of a donor, there is no cost to participate in this year’s program.

The group is limited to 25 participants. See the online application here.

“If you are eager to join the great thinkers of your faith in conversation, join us for this year’s PCSP virtual reading group,” according to the program’s website.
