St. Therese of Lisieux

The Carmelite Monastery at 66th and Broad streets in Philadelphia welcomes the reception of the relics of St. Therese of Lisieux and her parents, Blessed Louis and Zelie Martin, during liturgies Nov. 16-17.

Attendees to Magnificat Day, Nov. 9, may venerate the relics at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. The relics will arrive at the Cathedral Basilica of SS. Peter and Paul that evening and will be available for public veneration through Sunday, Nov. 10.

On Nov. 16 the relics will be transferred to the Carmelite Monastery in solemn liturgies. The Archdiocese has entrusted the relics to the monastery.

St. Therese was a Carmelite nun in Lisieux, France, at the time of her death in 1897. She was canonized a saint in 1925. Her parents were beatified in 2008.

The schedule of liturgies for the transfer of relics follows:

Saturday, Nov. 16
2:30 p.m. — Solemn transfer of the relics from the Cathedral Basilica of SS. Peter and Paul to the Carmelite Monastery.
2:45 p.m. — Relics expected to arrive at the monastery.
3 p.m. — Veneration of the relics until Mass begins.
5 p.m. — Holy Sacrifice of the Mass with Father Dennis Gill as celebrant.
After Mass — Veneration of the relics resumes.
8 p.m. — Last admittance to the chapel for veneration.

(Saturday bookstore hours: 1 to 2:40 p.m.; 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.; 6:30 to 8 p.m.)

Sunday, Nov. 17
8 a.m. — Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.
10 a.m. — Veneration begins and continues until benediction.
3 p.m. — Benediction of the Blessed Sacrament with Father Dennis Gill as celebrant.
3:30 p.m. — Conference by Father Frederick Miller. Veneration resumes afterward.
8 p.m. — Last admittance to the chapel for veneration.

(Sunday bookstore hours: 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; 3:30 to 6 p.m.)

The Carmelite chapel is accessible to the handicapped for these two days.

On the first Sunday of every month, starting Sunday, Dec. 1, the relics will be available for veneration in the chapel from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
