Dominican Sister of Peace Ruth Elsner died Nov. 24 at Spring View Hospital, Lebanon, Kentucky. She was 88.
A native of Indianapolis and a Dominican sister for 61 years, Sister Ruth earned a Bachelor of Science in business from Drexel University and a master’s in biblical studies from Marywood University in Scranton, Pa.
She ministered as a teacher in Havana, Cuba, and was part of the retreat staff in several of her congregation’s ministries including in Elkins Park and in New Mexico Florida. Later Sister Ruth was the assistant archivist at St. Catharine Hall in Elkins Park.
In 2013 she moved to Sansbury Care Center in Kentucky, where she entered a ministry of prayer and presence.
Sister Ruth’s funeral Mass was celebrated Dec. 4 in the center’s chapel. Burial was in the St. Catharine Motherhouse cemetery.
Sister Ruth is survived by several cousins.
