St. Gabriel School received a grant of $5,500 Jan. 11 from the Catholic Foundation of Greater Philadelphia to help purchase a security system for the school located in South Philadelphia.
The school’s Out of School Time after school program recently expanded its operating hours to 6 p.m., necessitating added security after dark.
St. Gabriel’s is one of 15 Independence Mission Schools, a system of independent Catholic grade schools in underserved communities mostly in Philadelphia.
The foundation is an independent nonprofit organization founded to ensure long-term stability and assistance for charitable organizations.
