More than 450 of the top musicians and singers in archdiocesan Catholic schools performed in the annual Msgr. Louis D’Addezio Concert of Excellence Tuesday, April 17 at Philadelphia’s leading concert hall, the Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts. In addition to individual performances by the elementary, high school and special-education school concert bands, jazz bands and choir, all the musicians and singers came together to perform the world premier of a new orchestral and choral work, “Lux Contritum,” (watch a video of the performance here) by composer Sean Kennedy, a graduate of Archbishop Wood High School. It was commissioned by Immaculate Heart Sister Lauretta Linsalata (an Archbishop Ryan High School music educator who was presented with an award), concert organizer Ed Stimson and Archbishop Wood president Gary Zimmaro.
