PHILADELPHIA – Our Lady of Calvary Parish sponsored a girls basketball tournament last month, which raised over $500 for Frank Kelly, a parishioner with ALS.
Along with Our Lady of Calvary, teams from various grade schools participated in the varsity bracket, including St. Dominic, St. Cecelia and St. Christopher, Philadelphia; Ancillae-Assumpta Academy, Wyncote; Nativity of Our Lord, Warminster; St. Jude, Chalfont; St. Ephrem, Bensalem; and Our Lady Help of Christians, Abington.
Tournament highlights included a hard fought contest between St. Christopher and Our Lady Help of Christians (OLHC) Dec. 27. Despite the efforts of OLHC seventh-grader Ashley McAfee, who scored 24 points, including eight three-pointers, St. Christopher won 52-42, advancing to the championship game. Led by eighth-grader and tournament MVP Marissa Sylvester, St. Chris defeated host Our Lady of Calvary.
The tournament was coordinated by Mike Nichols of Our Lady of Calvary.
Kelly passed away just a few days later on Dec. 31.
