DOWNINGTOWN – The CYO basketball teams of Region 17 in Chester County presented a $13,000 check to the Coaches vs. Cancer charity Feb. 13 at Bishop Shanahan High School in Downingtown.
Colin Costello of SS. Peter and Paul Parish in West Chester and Casey Walsh of St. Patrick Parish in Malvern presented the check to Fran Dunphy, head coach of Temple University’s men’s basketball team, between games of the regional championships. Dunphy accepted the check on the organization’s behalf.
Fund raising took place throughout the season with a goal of $10,000. Players raised pledge money from sponsors and collected 25-cent admission fees at games.
Costello and Walsh raised the most money for the region, raising over $500 each.
