Catholic Relief Services held its 2013 Rice Bowl kick-off event Jan. 29 at the St. Vincent de Paul Society food cupboard at Blessed Virgin Mary Parish, Darby.
Auxiliary Bishop John McIntyre blessed sample rice bowls and Maureen McCullough, CRS regional director, thanked the Archdiocese of Philadelphia for its generous response to the program.
For years, CRS Rice Bowl has encouraged Catholics and their families in the Archdiocese to use the small, fold-up rice bowl containers and place donations in them during Lent, while remembering the poor during the penitential season.
Donations support CRS’ work in development and disaster relief around the world.
At the kick-off event, food cupboard coordinators Dottie and Dan Gallagher and St. Vincent de Paul Society members told how CRS Rice Bowl reaches out to people in need locally.
