Nico Maruso of St. Francis de Sales shows the items he collected before they are delivered to needy people in Delaware County.

As part of their preparation for the sacrament of confirmation, sixth graders from St. Francis de Sales School and Parish CCD program in Aston, Delaware County, participated in several service projects.

Some students worked as a team to package items from the St. Francis de Sales Home and School Association’s annual Fall Outgrown Clothing Sale for donation to a local mission. Others worked individually to collect supplies and necessities for other local social service agencies.

Through these “works of charity” or “works of mercy” the candidates gain a better understanding that service is rooted in their faith in Jesus and flows from the grace of God.

Confirmation candidates dedicated up to three hours to their service projects.

Bishop Joseph Martino conferred the sacrament of confirmation on 52 children of the parish Nov. 9 at St. Francis de Sales Church, along with Father Alan Okon, parish pastor.
