Auxiliary Bishop Michael J. Fitzgerald conferred the ministry of lector for eight men in the permanent deacon formation program on Sept. 14 at St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, Wynnewood.
Those receiving the ministry, which empowers the men to proclaim the word of God in Catholic liturgies, included Melvin A. Burton, Michael J. Cipressi, Matthew D. Coyne, William J. Griffin, Christopher J. Hilden, Steven M. Javie, Gary D. Schoenenberger and Edward M. Twiss.
The bishop was the main celebrant of the Mass in Immaculate Conception Chapel. Concelebrants included Father Patrick Brady, dean of the school of diaconal formation; Bishop Timothy Senior, rector of the seminary; plus pastors and priest friends of the candidates. (Photos by Sarah Webb)
