Event Description

Whether your role is Administration, Counselor or School Minister, you have most likely experienced the heightened divisive rhetoric in our country that, sadly, has infected our schools. The contagion of fear and hostility that has turned us from one another is growing.

 

We invite you to participate in a day of listening and dialog on April 27th, from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., that promises to offer a new and hopeful perspective on this societal wound, and how it affects our schools.

 

“Conversations That Matter, Our Schools” is an opportunity to receive the expertise of a transformational educational leader, as well as the wisdom of young people, whose voices can call us powerfully.

 

The day will begin with a keynote address by award-winning educator and child-trauma expert, Dr. Vierdra Jackson, Ed.D, who will lead us in a sensory walk through our schools. She will help us learn how to create environments that are emotionally and socially safe for all students.

 

Student leaders will sit at our tables and open to us their stories of how racial, socio-economic and cultural systemic bias has impacted them.

 

Administrative teams will be invited to safe, reverent dialog with one another as they share their own experiences and harvest the learnings of the day.

 

Outcomes of the day will include:

  • A deeper understanding of how to make our school environments more

inviting of diverse student bodies.

  • A new sensitivity for what students of color are experiencing.
  • A look at restoring respectful dialogue for students.
  • Ideas around integrating values into curriculums across subject

areas.
