Event Description
This year our teachers have been working hard to expand our unique STREAM (Science, Technology, Religion, Engineering, and Math) Program.
The STREAM Program is an innovative approach to teaching students about design, engineering, and inquiry. The core mission of our new STREAM (Science, Tech, Religion, Engineering, Art, Math) program’s “Innovation Lab,” is to help the students in K-8 connect what they learn in school to the future that they can create using design, engineering, and inquiry. The program, based on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, encourages students to create engineering solutions to global challenges while focusing on empathy, engagement, and empowerment. The program provides students with the skills needed to tackle a larger issue, break it down into smaller, manageable steps, and to work creatively and collaboratively.
Students work on one of the Sustainable Development Goals throughout the entire year, and at the end of the year, they will showcase their solutions at our school-wide Innovation event. Throughout the school year, students from Pre-School through Eighth Grade have worked in the Innovation Lab in groups, guided by their teachers, to learn more about the design, engineering, and inquiry process.
A yearlong project beginning with students researching a problem, coming up with a solution, and culminates in students building a model to explain their solution. Seventh and Eighth Graders will be giving talks to explain their own project process throughout the year.
Students are beginning to create their final models, and will be showing off their final products on Thursday, May 9 at 6:30 p.m. here at MMR in our first Annual STREAM Program’s Innovation Night! We hope you can make it!
