Event Description

In August, Father Joe Serano celebrated his 50th anniversary of ordination. With two presentations on two Tuesday nights (or alternatively two Wednesday mornings), he will share some of what has been his experience — on what it means to be a priest and how that expresses itself in ministry.

The documents of Vatican II reaffirm that Jesus is THE priest within the believing community we call the church and ALL the baptized share in that priesthood. Both these truths are crucial to understanding “ordination.” Similarly, with pastoral ministry, to understand the role of the ordained, we have to begin with Jesus as the Good Shepherd (pastor in Latin) and a recognition that all the members of the church are called to share in that “shepherding” (e.g. the vocation to be a parent or grandparent). From these starting points, one can begin to build a theology of priesthood and ministry. (Each session will allow ample time for discussion.)
