In his homily for the Third Sunday of Advent, Father Joseph LoJacono, pastor of St. Veronica and St. Hugh of Cluny Parishes in Philadelphia, describes how Advent — while a time of joyful expectancy — is also an invitation to enter the deserts of life, so that we can be purified to receive Christ.

By journeying with the Lord through suffering, spiritual dryness and penance, we ultimately pass through the desert to the fullness of life in Jesus’ presence.
