A multitude of Catholics took to the streets in Bucks County on Thursday, May 30 to welcome the National Eucharistic Pilgrimage and the Blessed Sacrament as it officially entered the Archdiocese of Philadelphia from the Diocese of Trenton.
The display-of-faith kicks off a weekend-long visit with parish-based events and Eucharistic processions taking place throughout the five-county local Church today through Monday, June 3.
In Morrisville, a procession of approximately 100 Catholics along with 13 official United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ pilgrims traveling the eastern Seton route met at the intersection of North Pennsylvania and Hillcrest avenues before heading to Holy Trinity Parish.
Most Reverend John J. McIntyre, Auxiliary Bishop of Philadelphia, and Father Joseph Shenosky, currently pastor of Sacred Heart Parish and archdiocesan Coordinator for the Eucharistic Revival, greeted the pilgrims along with Monsignor John C. Eckert, pastor of Holy Trinity Parish.
Clergy, religious, and lay faithful of the archdiocese along with the school community of Holy Trinity lined the streets to welcome the pilgrims.
Following the mid-morning procession, Bishop McIntyre presided over prayer and benediction.
Among those processing along the Seton Route is Amayrani Higueldo, one of the two young women from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia who is participating in the pilgrimage as perpetual pilgrims. The archdiocese’s second perpetual pilgrim, Sarah Cahill, is processing along the Marian Route.
