Sister ­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­Janice Marie Hallacher, OSF

Sister ­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­­Janice Marie Hallacher, OSF, (formerly Sister Victor), 92, died in Assisi House on Tuesday, July 23, 2024. She had been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 72 years. Sister Janice was born in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where she was a member of Holy Trinity Parish and a graduate of Lancaster Catholic High School.  She entered the congregation in 1949 and professed her first vows in 1952.  She earned a BS in Education and an MA in Mathematics both from Villanova University. She ministered primarily in education and administration.

Sister Janice ministered for 67 years in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. She began in education teaching at Hallahan High School and Lansdale Catholic High School for a total of 16 years. For an additional 16 years she served the congregation in administration on the provincial council. She then served as an associate professor at Neumann University for five years before serving in the congregational archives for 26 years. In 2020 she moved to Assisi House, the congregation’s retirement residence in Aston, where she served in prayer and hospitality ministry until her death.

Additional ministry includes serving for two years as principal at The Catholic High School of Baltimore and one year teaching at Holy Angels School in Trenton.

All services will be held in Assisi House on Friday, July 26, 2024, and will be livestreamed. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 9:30 A.M. followed by viewing. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 A.M. Burial will be in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Aston. Sister Janice is survived by her Franciscan family.
