An archdiocesan elementary school in Chester County has been designated a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, according to an announcement made today by U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona.
Holy Family Catholic School in Phoenixville was among only 40 non-public schools of the total 356 U.S. schools selected for the 2024 Blue Ribbon cohort. Schools were chosen for this honor based on exemplary high performance.
Holy Family School received this recognition previously in 2016. With the addition of the 2024 cohort, Blue Ribbon status has been awarded 52 times to parish and regional elementary schools in the five-county Philadelphia Archdiocese since the program’s inception in 1982.
St. Genevieve Catholic School in Flourtown has received this honor more times than any other school in the Archdiocese, having been honored in 2000, 2006, and 2016.
In addition to today’s honor, Holy Family has also been recognized by the Archdiocese’s Office of Catholic Education as an Archdiocesan School of Distinguished Instruction, receiving that accolade in 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2024. This year, they were among 71 parish and regional elementary schools to receive that honor from OCE.
“This tremendous accomplishment is a testament to the hard work and dedication of the faculty, students, and school families,” said Dr. Andrew McLaughlin, Secretary for Elementary Education for the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.
“As proud institutions of Catholic Education our focus is on the holistic development of our students and equipping them to become servant leaders with the zealous heart of a Missionary Disciple.”
The United States Department of Education will hold a recognition ceremony for this year’s Blue Ribbon Schools on Nov. 7-8 in Washington, D.C.
