
The girls of St. Andrew’s CYO varsity basketball team celebrate their win with coaches Mitch Akright and Fran Costello.
St. Andrew Parish, Newtown, girls varsity CYO basketball team captured the state championship Sunday, March 9 at North Catholic High School in Pittsburgh beating Mother of Mercy Academy, Pittsburgh, 37-34.
“This victory is a testament to the hard work and commitment of both the players and coaches,” said St. Andrew’s associate principal, Jessica Wagner. “The girls displayed incredible teamwork, dedication, and sportsmanship throughout the tournament, and we could not be prouder of their achievement.”
Saint Andrew’s last took home the CYO State Championship during the 2014-2015 academic year.
