Join in person at the Society House or via Zoom on April 8 for the American Catholic Historical Society’s April lecture given by Dr. Dawn Eden Goldstein.
In this talk, Dr. Dawn Eden Goldstein, JCL, STD, will speak on her award-winning biography of Father Edward Dowling, SJ (1898-1960), who rescued Alcoholics Anonymous co-founder Bill Wilson from debilitating depression and gave him the spiritual guidance he needed to bring AA to international prominence. Although Dowling was not an alcoholic himself, he came to devote his ministry to helping people in recovery, including those in troubled marriages and those suffering from nervous disorders.
Dr. Goldstein was born in New York City, she began her working life as a rock-and-roll historian. In 2016, she became the first woman to earn a doctorate in sacred theology from the University of St. Mary of the Lake. She then went on to receive a licentiate in canon law from the Catholic University of America. She lives in Washington DC and has taught at universities and seminaries in the United States, England, and India. She is currently writing a biography of Father Louis J. Twomey, SJ.
The lecture is free for members, and $10 for non-members. For more information or to register, please visit here.
