Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez issued the following statement May 23 regarding the murder of Israeli Embassy officials in Washington, DC, May 21.

My heart was burdened with great sorrow to learn of Wednesday night’s shooting at the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, DC that resulted in the senseless death of two young adults working for the Israeli Embassy.
In the name of the clergy, consecrated religious, and lay faithful of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, I extend prayerful condolences to the family and friends of Sarah Lynn Milgrim and Yaron Lischinsky.
In union with all people of good will in the Philadelphia region, I also offer prayers for the citizens of the state of Israel and for Jewish residents in our area as they mourn this tragic loss and yearn for freedom from hate.
May the Lord of peace inspire us to reject violence in all of its forms and embrace one another as brothers and sisters.
Most Reverend Nelson J. Pérez, D.D.
Archbishop of Philadelphia
