The Archdiocese of Philadelphia’s Office for Divine Worship released guidelines for the clergy and faithful throughout the Archdiocese of Philadelphia to give praise and thanks to Almighty God for his provident care of the Church.

According to a document sent to all clergy in the Philadelphia region, the faithful are asked to pray for our newly elected Pope, using the customary Our FatherHail Mary, and Glory be to the Father prayers. Praying the rosary, either individually or in groups, is also encouraged.

The guidelines encourage priests of the archdiocese to include the name of the Holy Father in the Eucharistic Prayer and plan for the public celebration of a special Mass for for the newly elected Pope.

During the universal prayer at Mass, the following petition should be used as the first petition from today until the Inaugural Mass of the new Pope:

For our new Holy Father, Pope Leo XIV, that he may be strengthened by God’s grace to proclaim the saving truth of the Gospel as he assumes the ministry of universal shepherd and pastor of the Church.  Let us pray to the Lord./Lord, hear our prayer.
