Reverend Donato P. Silveri

Reverend Donato P. Silveri, pastor emeritus of St. Mary Magdalen De Pazzi Parish in South Philadelphia, died on Tuesday, May 6, 2025.

Father Silveri was born on May 16, 1929 in Philadelphia. He is the son of the late Thomas C. Silveri, and the late Ida D’Antonio.

Father Silveri attended Barry Elementary School (Philadelphia), Shoemaker Junior High School (Philadelphia) and Overbrook Senior High School (Philadelphia) before entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary.

Father Silveri was ordained on May 16, 1964, at the Cathedral Basilica of SS. Peter and Paul by Most Reverend John J. Krol.

Father Silveri served as parochial vicar at Saint Michael of the Saints Parish (Philadelphia); King of Peace Parish (Philadelphia); St. Thomas Aquinas Parish (Philadelphia); and Holy Saviour Parish (Norristown). Father Silveri served in the U.S. Army as Military Chaplain from 1967-1981.

In 1984, he was named pastor of St. Mary Magdalen De Pazzi Parish in South Philadelphia and in 2000 he was named pastor emeritus. For 17 years, he served veterans as chaplain at the Southeastern Pennsylvania Veterans’ Center in Spring City, Chester County, from (2000-2017).

The Reception of the Body will be held at Saint Joseph Church, Spring City, on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at 9:00 a.m. followed by a viewing.

Auxiliary Bishop Edward M. Deliman will celebrate the Funeral Mass at 11:00 a.m. Reverend Monsignor Charles Sangermano, and Reverend Charles O’Hara will concelebrate.

Father Silveri is survived by his brother, Anthony, and nieces and nephews. Interment will be at SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery in Spring City.
