“I was filled with great joy to learn that Pope Leo XIV appointed Most Reverend Mark A. Eckman as the 13th Bishop of the Diocese of Pittsburgh.

I have had the privilege of serving with him on the Pennsylvania Catholic Conference since his appointment in 2022 as auxiliary bishop of the Diocese of Pittsburgh. Bishop Eckman has great pastoral care for souls and well-honed administrative ability. The people of God in western Pennsylvania are receiving a true gift from the Holy Father in the person of their new shepherd.

In the name of the priests, deacons, consecrated religious, and lay faithful of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, I offer heartfelt congratulations and prayers to Bishop Eckman as he prepares to assume his new role in service to the Church. May the Holy Spirit guide him as a successor to the Apostles.

At this time, I also extend prayerful gratitude to Bishop David A. Zubik for his selfless service to the Diocese of Pittsburgh and her people for the past 24 years, both as auxiliary bishop and Ordinary. May his retirement be a peaceful and healthy one.”
