Retired Deacon Daniel N. DeLucca

Retired Deacon Daniel N. DeLucca, passed away on June 5, 2025, at the age of 93.

Deacon Daniel N. DeLucca, was born on October 6, 1931, to the late Donto DeLucca and Antonella (née Ottadi). He was raised in Northeastern Pennsylvania, then he graduated from Saint Bonaventure University, New York with a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a minor in education and philosophy, then a Master’s of Business Administration from New York University, a Doctor of Humane Letters from Saint Joseph’s University, a Doctor of Pedagogy from Saint Bonaventure University and a Doctor of Laws from Neumann University. Later in 1955 he moved to the Philadelphia area.

He was ordained on May 25, 1986, by His Eminence John Cardinal Krol, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Peter and Paul, Philadelphia. He was originally assigned to Saint Andrew the Apostle Parish, Drexel Hill, where he remained until his death on June 5, 2025. Deacon DeLucca’s years in ministry included serving the Archdiocese of Philadelphia as the clergy coordinator for Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs for the Delaware County Vicariate. He was an Adjunct Professor of Homiletics at Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary. In 2003, Deacon DeLucca was awarded the Papal Cross: Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice for his service to the Church.

Deacon Daniel N. DeLucca started his twenty-two-year professional career at Saint Jospeh’s University as a faculty member, department chairman, assistant to the president and vice president. He directed the University’s 125th anniversary celebration which featured Princess Grace of Monaco. Daniel then became president of Spring Garden College, Philadelphia for thirteen years. He next became president of Alvernia University, Reading, serving for seven years and returned to Saint Joseph’s University until his retirement.

Deacon Daniel N. DeLucca, was predeceased by his wife of 56 years, Margaret (nee: Quinn) DeLucca. He is also survived by his four sons, Daniel, Jr., John, Paul, and Christopher, nine grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.

A viewing will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2025, from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM at D’Anjolello Memorial Home of Broomall, 2811 West Chester Pike, Broomall. A second viewing will be held on Friday, June 13, 2025, beginning at 9:00 AM followed by his Funeral Mass at 10:30 AM at Saint Andrew the Apostle Church, 3500 School Lane, Drexel Hill. The principal celebrant will be Most Reverend Keith J. Chylinski. Concelebrant and homilist will be Reverend James F. Sullivan. Additional concelebrants are Reverend Monsignor Albin J. Grous, Reverend Monsignor Thomas M. Mullin, Reverend Phillip J. Lowe, Reverend Joseph T. Shenosky, and Reverend Daniel R. Joyce, S.J. Master of Ceremonies will be Deacon Thomas N. Verna. Deacon of the Word will be Deacon David Schaffer, and Deacon of Eucharist is Deacon Alvin A. Clay. Interment will follow at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield.
