Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez celebrated Mass during a new formation program for bishops, held July 21–24 at Villanova University. Hosted by the university’s Center for Church Management, the program brought together bishops from across the U.S. and Canada for a four-day experience focused on leadership in people, finances, and strategy.
Participants included Bishop Alfred A. Schlert (Allentown), Bishop John J. McDermott (Burlington), Bishop Michael T. Martin, O.F.M. Conv. (Charlotte), Bishop Dennis G. Walsh (Davenport), Bishop James T. Ruggieri (Portland), Bishop Christian Riesbeck, CC (Saint John, NB), and Bishop Bruce Lewandowski, C.Ss.R. (Providence). Auxiliary bishops included Bishop Cristiano Barbosa (Boston); Bishops Christopher R. Cooke, Keith J. Chylinski, and Efren V. Esmilla (Philadelphia); Bishop Reynaldo Bersabal (Sacramento); Bishop Felipe Pulido (San Diego); and Bishop Kevin Kenney (Saint Paul).
