The new shrine honoring Our Lady of Kibeho.
A new shrine honoring Our Lady of Kibeho will be dedicated on Sunday, Aug. 17 at the Basilica Shrine of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal, 500 E. Chelten Ave., Philadelphia.
Auxiliary Bishop Efren V. Esmilla will celebrate the 11:00 a.m. Mass, with music from the African Catholic Choir and praise dancers. Following Mass, a procession will lead to St. Vincent’s Rosary Walk for the dedication.
The shrine honors the Marian apparitions in Kibeho, Rwanda, recognized by the Church in 2001. Made possible by a grant from Black Catholic donor Willa Stokes, the project is a collaboration between CAMM and the Martin de Porres Foundation, reflecting both Black Catholic spirituality and the universality of the faith.
In celebration of the shrine’s dedication, Catholic author Immaculée Ilibagiza will lead a retreat at the Basilica Shrine on Oct. 25.
