On Wednesday, Oct. 1, the Archdiocese of Philadelphia will commemorate the 100th anniversary of the canonization of Saint Thérèse of the Child Jesus with an evening of prayer and reflection at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul. The celebration will begin at 7:00 p.m. with a Sung Mass in honor of the beloved “Little Flower,” presided over by Reverend Gerald Dennis Gill, rector of the Cathedral, who will serve as celebrant and homilist.
Following the liturgy, Maureen O’Riordan, renowned international expert on Saint Thérèse, will offer a presentation exploring the saint’s legacy and spiritual wisdom. The evening will conclude with an opportunity for prayer before the sacred relics of Saint Thérèse and her parents, Saints Louis and Zélie Martin, whose reliquary is housed in the Cathedral’s baptistry and is believed to be the only one in the world containing relics of a canonized family.
This celebration is part of the Jubilee Year 2025, and the Cathedral Basilica is designated as a sacred site for obtaining the Jubilee Indulgence.
Free parking is available in the Cathedral parking lot. For more information about the Martin family relics and their remarkable journey to Philadelphia, please visit here.
