Permanent Deacon Thomas J. Hannan

Permanent Deacon Thomas J. Hannan passed away on September 20, 2025, at the age of 70.

He was ordained on June 4, 2000, by Most Reverend Robert P. Maginnis, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Peter and Paul, Philadelphia. He was originally assigned to Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish, West Grove, where he remained even after his retirement on May 13, 2025.

Deacon Hannan was born on December 9, 1954, to the late James and Helen (née Clancy) Hannan. He was raised in Philadelphia and then moved to Chester County and graduated from Downingtown High School. He went to West Chester University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Art. Following graduation, he embarked on a long and dedicated career at Boeing for 40 years as an Information Technology (IT) Manager before retiring in September 2017.

Deacon Hannan is survived by his wife of 43 years, Sharon (nee: Dwyer) Hannan. He is also survived by his daughters; Megan, Leah, and Brighid, and his son Kevin, and his eight grandchildren and one on the way expected in November 2025.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 25, 2025, beginning at 10:00 AM followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 300 State Road, West Grove. The principal celebrant will be Most Reverend Edward M. Deliman. Concelebrating will be Reverend Scott D. Brockson, homilist and Assisting at the Liturgy of the Word will be Deacon Ronald L. Lewis. Deacon Assisting at the Eucharist will be Deacon Michael DeGrasse. Interment will follow at Saint Patrick’s Cemetery, 460 N. Union Street, Kennett Square.
