Permanent Deacon Robert Frankenberger

Retired Permanent Deacon Robert Frankenberger, passed away on October 19, 2025, at the age of 99.

He was ordained on May 24, 1987, by His Eminence John Cardinal Krol, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saint Peter and Paul, Philadelphia. He was originally assigned to Holy Cross Church, Springfield where he remained until he retired in 2009.

Deacon Frankenberger was born on July 9, 1926, to the late John and Esther (née Stengstack) Frankenberger. He was raised in White Marsh, Montgomery County where he was a graduate of Murrell Dobbins Career and Technical Education High School. He served the nation in the United States Army Air Corps as a Navigator. He then worked as a professional musician and accomplished opera singer (soloist) and at American Packaging Corporation as an Art and Production Manager until he retired. Upon his retirement he went to Saint Joseph’s University where he received his Bachelor’s in Theology degree.

Deacon Frankenberger was predeceased by his wife of 64 years, Julia (nee: Guazzelli). He is survived by his son Robert, Jr., three grandchildren Eric Frankenberger, Evan Frankenberger, Beth Main, and four great-grandchildren.

Reception of the Body and viewing will be held on Friday, October 24, 2025, beginning at 9:30 AM followed by his Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM at Holy Cross Church, 651 E. Springfield Road, Springfield. The principal celebrant will be Most Reverend Michael J. Fitzgerald. Concelebrant and Homilist will be Reverend Steven W. Kiernan. The Deacon of the Word will be Deacon Joseph Gousie, and Deacon Assisting at the  Eucharist will be Deacon Thomas Taylor. Interment will follow at SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery, Springfield.
