Sister Maureen Stout, OSF

Aston, PA—Sister Maureen Stout, OSF, (formerly Sister Richard Cecilia), 86, died in Assisi House on Monday, October 13, 2025. She had been a professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 65 years. Sister Maureen was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, but grew up in Newark, Delaware, where she was a member of Holy Angels Parish and a graduate of St. Elizabeth High School. She entered the congregation in 1958 and professed her first vows in 1961. She earned a bachelor’s in English from Our Lady of Angels College, now Neumann University, and a master’s in education from the University of Delaware. She ministered primarily in elementary and secondary education.

Sister Maureen ministered for 51 years in the Diocese of Wilmington. She taught in Wilmington at St. Ann for two years, St. Anthony for three years, and St. John the Beloved for six years, before moving to Elkton to teach for 10 years at Immaculate Conception. She returned to Wilmington to teach for 21 years at Corpus Christi School. She completed her years in education ministry at All Saints Catholic School, where she taught for two years and volunteered for an additional seven.

Additional ministry included teaching for six years in the Archdiocese of Washington at St. Bernadette School in Silver Spring, and for two years in the Archdiocese of Baltimore at St. Katharine School and The Catholic High School of Baltimore. Since 2020 she has served in volunteer ministry in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia at Assisi House.

All services will be held in Assisi House on Friday, October 17, 2025, and will be livestreamed. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 9:30 A.M. followed by viewing. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 A.M. Internment of ashes will be at a later date in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Aston. Sister Maureen is survived by her brother Richard (Patricia), her sister-in-law Joanna, her many nieces and nephews, and her Franciscan family.
