Sister Virginia Maria Stanton SSJ, age 102, died on September 11, 2025, at Saint Joseph Villa.

The daughter of Edward and Emily (nee Murray) Stanton, she attended St. Ambrose Grade School and Hallahan High School and Little Flower High School.

In September 1942 she entered the Sisters of Saint Joseph, Chestnut Hill, and professed her final vows in 1950.

Sister Virginia ministered in the dioceses of Allentown, Camden, Harrisburg, Newark and Philadelphia.

She is preceded in death by her brothers, Edward “Bud”, Francis “Franny”, and Thomas, and her sister Helen. She is survived by her loving nieces, nephews, and their extended families, and members of her Congregation, The Sisters of Saint Joseph of Philadelphia.

Relatives and friends are invited to greet her family on Monday, October 27, 2025, beginning at 9:30 AM. A Mass will follow at 10:30 AM. Services will be livestreamed from the Saint Joseph Villa website, www.stjosephvilla.org.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sister’s name to Saint Joseph Villa, 110 W. Wissahickon Ave., Flourtown, Pa 19031.
