The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has issued a video message on the evolving situation impacting immigrants in the United States. The message was overwhelmingly approved by the bishops at their fall plenary meeting in Baltimore last week.

Archbishop Nelson Pérez joined several bishops in recording a video of the message, which voices serious concerns regarding detention conditions, family separations, and the climate of fear among immigrant communities, while affirming immigrants’ contributions to the nation.

The statement echoes recent remarks by Pope Leo XIV, who condemned “inhuman measures” in U.S. immigration enforcement.

Archbishop Pérez has previously spoken out about immigration, issuing a letter in July and a statement in January.

The bishops reaffirmed their opposition to indiscriminate mass deportations and dehumanizing rhetoric, urging meaningful reform of immigration law.

The video concludes with words of solidarity, “To our immigrant brothers and sisters, we stand with you in your suffering… You are not alone!”
