The Blaze Club, formally known as Court St. Katherine of Siena #2826 of the Junior Catholic Daughters of the Americas, will joyfully welcome 12 new members this month.

The faith- and service-based club composed of girls from St. Katherine of Siena Catholic School in Northeast Philadelphia gives members the opportunity to live out their faith through hands-on projects that reflect the corporal works of mercy.

In October, the 42 young women of the Blaze Club partnered with the Catholic Daughters Court Mystical Rose to make rosaries that will be sent to members of the military and missionaries overseas.

Over the weekend of Oct. 31-Nov. 2, Blaze members sold handmade bracelets after all the Masses, raising and donating $761 to veterans’ service organizations.

Upcoming projects include participating in Family Volunteer Day in November, hosting a Cook-In for Caring for Friends in January, organizing a Prom Closet event in February, and assisting the St. Margaret of Castello Home in May.

The Blaze Club began last spring with a large turnout of more than 60 interested girls gathering for their first meeting in April. Since then, the CDA State Court has offered guidance culminating in the founding of Court St. Katherine of Siena during a Mass in October.

Known for simplicity as the Blaze Club, the name honors the words of St. Katherine: “Be who God meant you to be, and you will set the world on fire.”
