As the faithful prepare to celebrate the Nativity of Our Lord, Archbishop Nelson J. Pérez and the auxiliary bishops of Philadelphia shared the following special message Dec. 19.

Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
The Gospel of Matthew joyfully proclaims, “Behold, the virgin shall be with child and bear a son, and they shall name him Emmanuel, which means ‘God is with us’” (Matthew 1:23). The miracle of Christ’s birth changed the world forever. Today, it promises new possibilities for each of us in the Body of Christ.
This year, we have all joined together as a local Church in important conversations about its future and the journey we will take. I remain deeply grateful for your presence, your voice, and your dedication to reflecting Christ’s compassionate love in so many ways.
Already, the Catholic Church of Philadelphia is becoming a vibrant and more effective witness to evangelization in the spirit of Missionary Discipleship. Together we are moving forward in hope because our hope rests in the Lord in whom we trust. Let us rely on God’s love for each one of us and be conduits of grace.
As we celebrate this season of hope illuminated by Christ’s pure love, let us share our love for the Savior with all those we encounter.
Know that you and your families are remembered in all of the Masses celebrated at Christmas this year.
May God bless you with a joyous Christmas and a happy, healthy, and holy New Year!
