Reverend John R. McFadden

Reverend John R. McFadden, retired, resident, Villa Saint Joseph, Darby, died on Friday, January 2, 2026.

Father McFadden was born on April 17, 1935, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He is the son of the late Patrick J. McFadden and the late Anna Kilgallen. Father McFadden attended Our Lady of Lourdes Parochial School, Philadelphia, Saint Thoms More High School, before entering Saint Charles Borromeo Seminary.

Father McFadden was ordained on May 19, 1962, at the Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, Philadelphia by Most Reverend John J. Krol. Father McFadden served as Parochial Vicar, Visitation B.V.M. Parish, Norristown; Our Lady of Charity Parish, Brookhaven; Saint Laurence Parish, Upper Darby; Saint Matthias Parish, Bala Cynwyd; Saint Charles Borromeo Parish, Philadelphia; Presentation B.V.M. Parish, Cheltenham. He served as a Chaplain in the U.S. Navy from 1971-1976. Father McFadden served as Parochial Administrator and Pastor Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, Chester, from 1979-1993. He served as Parochial Vicar with senior priest status, at Presentation B.V.M. Parish, Cheltenham. He retired from active ministry in June of 2010.

The Reception of the Body will be held at Presentation B.V.M. Church, Cheltenham, on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at 9:00 AM followed by a viewing. Most Reverend Keith Chylinski will celebrate the Funeral Mass on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at 11:00AM. Concelebrating the Funeral Mass will be Reverend Monsignor Vincent Walsh, Reverend William S. Harrison, and Bishop Chylinski will be the homilist.

Father McFadden is survived by his sister Margaret “Peggy” Graham and several nieces and nephews.

Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery in West Conshohocken, Pennsylvania.
