The Archdiocese of Philadelphia marked the start of its participation in the 51st annual Catholic Relief Services (CRS) Rice Bowl initiative on Feb. 11. Rice Bowl is a nationwide Lenten program that invites Catholics of all ages to put their faith into action through prayer, fasting, and almsgiving.

Bishop John J. McIntyre, Auxiliary Bishop of Philadelphia, presided over the blessing of this year’s cardboard Rice Bowl containers. Remarks were also offered by Anne H. Ayella, CRS Diocesan Director; Lizanne Hagedorn, Executive Director of Catholic Charities of Philadelphia’s Nutritional Development Services; and Paola Herrera, Executive Director of the Community Center at Visitation.
