An era will end when, as announced recently, Don Guanella Village begins to move from a full campus-based program to smaller, community-based group homes. The facility for intellectually disabled men in Springfield, Delaware County has been run by archdiocesan Catholic Social Services for almost half a century.

St. Gabriel’s Hall tops in caring for delinquent boys, wins $330K bonus

It’s nice when you get a letter telling you what a great job you are doing. It’s even better when a healthy check comes along with it. St. Gabriel’s Hall in Audubon, Montgomery County, the archdiocesan Residential Treatment Facility (RTF) for court-adjudicated adolescent boys, ranked first in successful outcomes among seven such facilities in the area. For this recognition it received a bonus of $330,000 from Community Behavioral Health.

Interfaith liturgy fills St. Therese Church to remember Dr. King

 The Dr. Martin Luther King holiday on Monday, Jan. 21 was billed as a day on, not a day off in the African American community. The preceding day, Sunday, was definitely a day on, not a day off at St. Therese of the Child Jesus Church in the Mount Airy section of the city. The church was jammed and overflowing for the 30th annual Archdiocesan Interfaith Commemorative Prayer Service in honor of Dr. King.

On Monday, January 21, 2013 Archbishop Charles Chaput was the honorary ringer of the Liberty Bell at the Liberty Bell Center marking the 28th Annual National Bell Ringing Ceremony for Martin Luther King Day.

Gov. Corbett touts educational innovations in visit to Catholic ‘mission’ school

Governor Tom Corbett visited a Northeast Philadelphia Catholic grade school Jan. 18 and lauded a new educational model for Catholic schools in the city. Independence Mission Schools, a management organization for 16 independent Catholic elementary schools located in mostly poor city neighborhoods, also introduced its new president, Al Cavalli.
