I just got to read this last night – it’s a very honest and sobering look at the state of local catholic education.
Thanks to all the commission members and bishops for tackling this contentious issue and making the difficult decisions that have to be made. None of us like change, but sometimes change is necessary.
Our school is being regionalized, and though the first year will be a challenge, I believe in the long run it will accomplish exactly what the commission is trying to do – build a stronger, more stable school that provides a great catholic education.
I’d encourage everyone with a stake in catholic education to read this report. It provides a good insight into the thinking of the commission, whose members appear to have a lot of experience “in the trenches.”
I’ve heard so many “opinions” from people who have few (if any) facts, haven’t read the report, and are reacting on little more than raw emotion. It’s time to get past the nostalgia, and face the situation in a rational way. The numbers are all there, and they demand a response. We’re moving forward.
This is a joke with no details. If you wonder why educated parents in their 30’s are choosing alternatives outside of your system you need only look at how poorly the information in the report was presented.
Good Luck as I and my family will not be joining you in your future.
