St. George Catholic Elementary School, at 2700 East Venango Street in Philadelphia, hosts the following Catholic Schools Week events:

Saturday, Jan. 26

“Raising our Standards in Faith” — Join us for our opening Mass of Catholic Schools Week beginning at 5 p.m. A special installation of our new altar servers will be highlighted for the liturgy. Be sure to get your tickets for our delicious homemade spaghetti dinner to follow in our church hall. (Tickets for the dinner must be purchased in advance.)

Monday, Jan. 28

“Raising our Standards in our Community” – For Technology Day students are invited to bring their favorite technology item with them to school this day (iPad, iPods, Nintendo DS, etc.) to show to their friends.

Students will create essays in class on “How I Can Make a Difference in My Community” and display them outside their classrooms.

Guest speakers will be on hand who will discuss safety and awareness within our neighborhoods.

Tuesday, Jan. 29

“Raising our Standards in Kindness to Others” — Students and staff are challenged to complete random acts of kindness throughout the day. A simple display of manners, helping others or going above and beyond can truly make a person’s day.

Wednesday, Jan. 30

“Raising our Standards in our Academics” — Students are invited to dress as their favorite storybook character. Encourage the love of reading to your child and share their interests and favorites with their peers.

Upper grades will be hosting “mini-lessons” for the younger groups while developing reading and comprehension skills among the students.

Families are encouraged to write a short essay on what their favorite subject was in school, and why. Entries will be shared over the loudspeaker throughout the day.

Thursday, Jan. 31

“Raising our Standards in School Spirit” — Students can dress in their school colors (blue and gold) or in any St. George attire.

Today will be a “get up and move” day. When a famous song comes over the loudspeaker, get up and dance to the music! Be ready at a moment’s notice to show your best moves.

Talent Show — Students will perform approved acts for the school community in the school hall.

Friday, Feb. 1

“Raising the Standards in Respect” — The closing Mass of Catholic Schools Week will be held in the church at 8:30 a.m. Students of the Month for January and February will be presented with their certificates following the liturgy.

Students will be treated to school-wide bingo games in the morning, with early dismissal at noon.
