The student Prayer Partners of Presentation B.V.M. School in Cheltenham visited the Silver Lake Nature Center in Bristol Feb. 20 for a field trip. They watched sap drip from a maple tree and were able to taste it. Students used stethoscopes to hear the sap running inside the tree.
Students also saw and touched pelts from animals that live in Pennsylvania such as a skunk and a black bear, as well as a snapper turtle shell and an owl’s wing.
The students learned that it takes 10 gallons of sap to make 1 quart of maple syrup, and they agreed that tasting the syrup that comes from Pennsylvania was the highlight of the day, despite the cold weather.
