Cardinal O’Hara has had its share of athletic greatness over the years.
Time for some more.
At the New Balance Indoor National track and field meet at the Armory in New York on March 14, the foursome of Kevin James, Nick Smart, Isaiah Cooper and Jim Belfatto discovered greatness.
In the distance medley relay, the four teammates seized the national scholastic championship. Their time of 10 minutes, 00.75 seconds was a meet record and also the fastest time in Catholic high school history.
The distance medley consists of four legs in one race. The legs and the time in seconds for each are: Kevin James, 1,200 meters, 303.4; Isaiah Cooper, 400 meters, 52.5; Nick Smart, 800 meters, 153.8; and Jim Belfatto, 1,600 meters, 411.5.
Making the trip to the national meet from O’Hara were two boys’ and two girls’ relay teams.
