64. Mercy grows when we love as Christ showed us. The “grace of Christian marriage is a fruit of Christ’s cross, the source of all Christian life.” Catholics believe that “Christ himself is at work” in each of the seven sacraments, and that the Holy Spirit is a fire in the sacraments, transforming into the divine life whatever it touches. In the Sacrament of Marriage, God’s covenant is made visible, the covenant’s grace is communicated and shared. In the Sacrament of Marriage, God’s covenant enters our homes and becomes the foundations of our families.

In its introduction, the document says its aim is to present “Catholic teaching in a way that is fresh, insightful, and accessible to contemporary Catholics and all people of good will.” The catechesis “offers a narrative beginning with our creation, soberly noting our fall and the challenges we face, but emphasizing God’s plan for our salvation. Love is our mission, and it is by loving God and one another that we will be fully alive.”
